Past the Hospital

I managed to make it past the hospital dungeon, got Maki's mom into the school, and left with a supposed healthy Maki to rescue Mark from the police station (yay!) But then I realized I had missed a step in order to get Reiji (Chris). I thought that after talking with his mom I would be all set, but I didn't follow through and take a peek at the Abandoned Factory. I was supposed to meet him there, watch him run off, then go on into the Hospital. Well, I missed that step and now I can't get Reiji.

I thought then that since I messed up getting Reiji, I could just do the Snow Queen Quest. WELL, I was supposed to get that set up right after bringing Maki's mom into the school. Instead, I got her there, then immediately left with Maki and Nanjo to go rescue Mark. SIGH. So now I can't even do that. I suppose I could just pick someone and go through the SEBEC route... but I really wanted Reiji for that.

So I could either do that or start over >_>

Anyway, some comments so far:

Nanjo's voice is... very deep. It's definitely not what I imagined he would sound like but whatever. Maki's voice is a bit annoying, too, whenever she's in battle.

And the more battles I get into, the more I seem to like the new battle theme. It fits, especially when the music starts up while on the world map (after the world changes). They seem to mesh together well. Plus, I really like that theme. It's called "Let butterflies spread until the dawn." ...Yeah. Anyway, good track.

BTW, I've forgotten how sucky Nanjo is in the beginning. I mean, HE ONLY HAS HAMA AND SUKUKAJA AND CANDY VOICE OR WHATEVER way in the beginning. Only now does he have that FIST skill.

And I still haven't figured out how the experience point system works. I do get that the more one does in a fight, the more XP they get... but does it depend on what spells they use? Say like, if one uses an attack spell, while another uses a support spell, do they get the same about of XP? Because I swear that I've gotten them all to use an attack spell, gotten them all to kill 1 monster only, and yet, some people managed to get more XP than others, even though they're at the same level. Hm... maybe it has something to do with the level of the monster as well-- that was something I didn't check. Anyway, I also know that I need to make their Persona do SOMETHING to get a rank up and learn more spells (thank you, Persona 2). Maybe I should just sit there and make Nanjo use Sukukaja 10932410931 times to get him a new spell.

Anyway, so far, I'm really digging the game. I haven't contacted any demons yet so I don't get to see Mark's "MARK DANCED CRAZY!" I wonder if we get the little sound effects like in the original game-- like when you make Protagonist sing, a little tune accompanies his picture. Hmm need seeeeee.

BTW, I have a new desktop and I LOVE IT. I ALSO LOVE WINDOWS 7. IT'S SO MUCH FASTER THAN VISTA. It took some work to get it to look like some of the older versions' options (like having to re-enable the quick launch bar), and I haaate the start up menu, but otherwise, it's good. I also have new speakers, so I can rock out.

yayz

Persona for the PSP

I haven't even gotten to the HOSPITAL yet, and this game already took up about half an hour of my life. SHITE-- I love it!

I've played the original Revelations: Persona on the Playstation. I hadn't beaten it, but I did get up to the very last dungeon (I think! Deva Yuga is the last, right?), so I've had experience with the older game. With that said, here are a few of my impressions.

1) WOW. It's weird seeing a white Mark. (Okay, not really :P)

2) I was really surprised by the walking speed when you're in first-person mode. You literally ZOOM down the hall and the only way to stop yourself is to bang into the wall. Okay, so the controls aren't that slippery but it's veerrrry fast and kinda disorienting at first. However, it is a godsend when you see these maps you have to cover. Not to mention they only get BIGGER as the game progresses. So yes, good job with giving us rocket boots, Atlus!

3) Is anyone else disapponted that we don't get those little sound effects anymore? When our characters do a dialogue and suddenly! Someone's surprised and we get that little "Surprise!" sound effect? ...No? Well, I miss them. ;_; Maybe the first few scenes don't have them in this remake but it was definitely something I noticed-- it was something that made the original game really quirky and stand out to me.

4) I didn't like the music at first, and even found it distracting when I was trying to read the dialogue (singing in the background). But after a while, you get used to it and you can block it out. Have I mentioned I hate that they re-did some of the music so there's SINGING now? Ugh. THough, I did like how they remixed some of the original soundtrack.

5) THE MAP. OMG. WOOOOOOW. It's... it's so beautiful. No more polygon people and cars and TREES. My cousin, when he first witnessed me play, said that my character looked like a bush on the world map. And you know what? He did. A big green, twirling bush. Here, it's still the same sort of cursor, but the map is so wonderfully drawn. It's very much in the style of both Persona 2's. Very, very nice.

6) Alaya Shrine? Sorry... I'm way too used to the Araya Shrine.

Next mission: Actually GETTING TO THE HOSPITAL. Nanjo and Yukino have already reminded me 341031031201 times to get my ass there-- so I might as well.

I should put this livejournal to good use. I barely use it since... well, there's nothing much to talk about in my life. So, maybe I'll use it as a game commentary during my play. It won't be GOOD commentary, but just my thoughts.

I really need to update my little list on the side there >> But anyway, I'm currently playing Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core for the PSP and... World of Warcraft on the PC.

So I'm thinking I'm about... oh, 4-5 hours into the game at best. I was actually pretty excited about playing this game, but not because I really liked Zack or because I really wanted to know what happened before the monster of a game known as Final Fantasy VII. I was looking forward to playing it because of the select pieces of music I've heard from the game, which were mostly remixes of old FF7 themes.

Well, I was pretty disapponted when I found out I won't be hearing "Fighting" at every single battle sequence, but so far, I think the music is okay. It's nothing special, but at least it doesn't grate on the nerves-- half the time you don't even notice it! Though, I wouldn't even call it atmospheric music. Okay, so maybe I don't have quite such a high opinion of the music, but at least it isn't annoying; it's just not spectacular and memorable like the music from the main Final Fantasy series so far.

Gameplay. Um, okay, so it's pretty different from your traditional RPG. I was expecting that. But in a way, it's a lot like Kingdom Hearts, only much simpler. ...Somehow. No wait, it is! Since you can't jump! Yes, all you need to do is press the X button until the enemy is dead. Sometimes, you can do this without even getting hurt since it usually stuns the enemy/interrupts their actions. Yes, sometimes it's necessary to run around in circles to dodge the boss's attack, but you're mostly fighting random battles that don't require much strategy at all. So... yup, it gets boring. I might use magic every once in a while, but it's mostly to heal myself and throw the occasional lightning bolt at the mechanical enemy.

The slots system thing... is interesting. It might be more interesting if I had anything to do to control it. Actually, all you need to do is keep winning battles to feed it SP or whatever combinination of letters it is, so it can keep spinning. But otherwise, it works by itself, spinning in the background. It's useful (you randomly get status effects like being able to use magic without MP, etc), but I can't control it-- not even when it takes up the whole screen to show me I have two identical people on the first and last slots, and the middle one needs to be decided. If you happen to get three pictures of the same person in a row, you get to do a Limit Break attack. If you don't get 3 of the same person, but you get triple 7's, you get to level up. If you get any 2 of the same number, the number that corresponds to your materia slots gets to level up that materia. ...Does anyone else think it's stupid that you level up based on luck? At least in Kingdom Hearts, you level up based on how many enemies you beat senseless!

But anyway, it seems like most of the time, you either hang out at Shinra Headquarters to do random side missions to get items, read your emails, and get on with the story. When you're finally doing something with the story and you're out on the field, it feels like an overly simplistic mini dungeon. It might look like you're outside on the field but if you look at the map, there's like one trail you can follow and it might or might not branch off to somewhere else, so there's not much exploring. You might end up in the middle of the map and can go backwards, but you'd only do that if you care about finding a treasure chest with a stupid potion (I do this all the time.) Also, I think you can dodge random enemy attacks by walking up against the sides of the trail... I think all random battles are situated in the middle of the path-- but I'm not too sure about this-- I just know that this has helped me one time in a mission.

I can't say much about the Materia system because it feels like it's barely there. You get very few slots to put materia in, and while you get a good variety in the beginning, I just stick to the magical guns. I'm sure you get a few more slots later on, but compared to FF7, this is... very disappointing. It's not very complicated at all. In fact, it's like Kingdom Hearts (gasp!) where you get to pick a few magic spells to equip.

Now the story. Okay, so I'm not that far into the story-- er, where AM I in the story? Definitely after Angeal's village... it's somewhere after that. Anyway, some guy with a red coat and loves the epic poem LOVELESS defected from SOLDIER and is causing havoc or whatever. Then your mentor, Angeal, seems to do the same thing, going so far as to kill his own mother. And now Zack is trying to figure out what's going on. Oh right, that guy's name is Genesis, which brings me to another point... what is up with their names? Lazard? Genesis? Not to mention the other FF7 spinoff game... Dirge of Cerebus. I recall someone being named Grimoire or whatever. Yeah, Cloud and Sephiroth aren't much better, but somewhow, the names in the new games seem to really stick out and seem tacky to me.

Anyway, I didn't realize it at first, even with the whole GENESIS CLONES and DEFECTING FROM SOLDIER thing, but I did manage to figure it out before they threw it in your face: Genesis and Angeal are the same as Sephiroth -- experiments of Shinra where Jenvoa cells are injected into a fetus or whatever. They haven't gone so far as to say that but I think it's going in that direction, especially when Genesis whips out that one wing of his and manages to fly away somehow... yeah, how does that work? I mean, at least at the end of FF7, Sephrioth had a ton of wings to keep him afloat. This whole one-winged angel thing really irks me, actually. It was cool with Sephiroth, but you didn't notice he only had one wing on his back since he had wings all over his body in the last boss fight. But then Kingdom Hearts came along... and we see Sephiroth with that one stupid little wing. And then CLOUD HAS ONE TOO. (Not to mention that CLoud was extra emo after being spliced with Vincent.) Didn't that guy from the extra super secret ending of Dirge of Cerberus have one, too? *looks it up* Oh, he's actually Genesis. So yes, he has one, and so does Angeal, and it annoys me. THOUGH, I do have to say that it's interesting that there are more like Sephiroth. Are they going to go cry after Mother as well? It'll be intersting to see how this leads up to Sephiroth's defection as well.

Oh, and, somehow I thought Sephiroth and Zack were pretty buddy-buddy in FF7. I wonder if anything will lead up to that in this game, or was it just a misperception on my end? And we haven't met Aeris or Cloud yet-- how will that go?

While I do have a few hangups with this game, I'm still going to try to play through it, if only to see how this pans out. And for the record, I do like the English voice acting in this game... so far. Tseng is a bit dry, but I think his personality is pretty dry/serious anyway, so it fits. Also, Zack is pretty cute. Impulsive and positive, and I like Angeal's description of him as a restless puppy. It's nice to see him a little more fleshed out after seeing only a few glimpses of him in the main game. I look forward to seeing more of his story but I just need to get through this boring gameplay ;; Oh well!

Okay, that was longer than I thought and I don't feel like getting into WoW now. So I'll save that for next time~

So, I've finished Firefly and Serenity. And I'm kinda sad =/

I really liked Wash >> Did they really need to kill him? And the Shepard! Whyyyyy?

And also, I've noticed that the two black men who were on the series/movie as villains... were really badass: that bounty hunter from the last episode of Firefly, and the main villain guy in the movie.

Anyway, I'm not quite sure if I quite liked Serenity though. I almost kind of feel like... if I never saw Firefly, I wouldn't "get" the movie. And I'm not sure if it really felt like an episode of the series either. As in, somehow, the plot didn't seem as good as each episode of the series, and I don't feel like it stands alone as a movie either. Maybe that's just me >>

Anyway, still sad!

Prince of Persia -- check!

So... Prince of Persia for the PS3. It's a very pretty game, easy to get into, and has likeable characters (though the Prince is a bit too chatty sometimes). BUT. The ending... was terrible.

So... why the hell did the Prince revive Elika? Okay, yes, there was some growing romantic interest between them, but I thought he would be smart enough to know that... yes, she died, but she died trying to right her father's wrongdoing. Did he just forget that whoooole epic journey they just went on? I dunno. I'm just really disappointed in him because I thought he would know better than that. I thought he could let her go and rest in peace.

Another terrible thing about the ending is how you're in control of the Prince the WHOLE time. He puts Elika on the altar, and the camera pans around to show the glowing trees that seal the temple door. Me?

"IT'S SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS ALL OVER AGAIN." and "OH NO."

At this point, you may have control over the Prince's actions, but you have no control over the outcome of the whole ordeal. You can't just NOT cut down the trees and NOT revive Elika... you have to in order to get the game done and over with. I have to admit that it's a very powerful tool because of the helplessness you feel, but that doesn't mean I have to like it! ;;

Ughhhh. There's an alternate ending that you can buy for 9.99 on the Playstation Store or wathever it's called, but like hell am I going to buy it *youtubes*.

But finally, this game is done and over with. Now I need to find some Prince and Elika fanfic!!11

I'm turning into way too much of a geek.

Steven (Li) ran Nick and me through a little DnD mini game and... you know, I liked it. The combat, at least. Didn't do much roleplaying since we were trying to get the combat system down. But yeah, it was surprisingly enjoyable, especially with all of our botched rolls: we just couldn't kill this one goblin who had like 1 HP left since the very beginning! Yarg, frustrating, but fun!

And now... oh god, I'm looking for a set of dice for myself. Whyyyyyyyy?

I'm really digging these:
Chessex Scarab - Jade/Gold dice

Chessex Cirrus

and the Gemini Purple/Steel : http://www.chessex.com/Dice/Gemini/PurpleSteel.htm

;-; I'M ... And I seriously got chills hearing Edea's theme. I was saying to Nick at the time One Winged Angel is always played but never the FF8 opening! Well, yayz :D

<lj-embed id="25" />

I've never played Myst but I really liked the music here.
Watching (Hearing) my brother play World of Warcraft makes me miss Final Fantasy XI. Buuuut, I know that if I reactivate my account, I won't play it lolz.

I do like the game, but it really does take waaaay too long to accomplish anything, especially if you're trying to do missions and hell, trying to LEVEL. Yeah, yeah, they did implement a system where you can adjust your level to fit a lower level party but... as a Dragoon, I'm really sick of hitting birds with my pointy stick. And as a level 60+ White Mage, I do not want to play in level 20 parties and adjust all my macros. It's just a big pain in the butt to adjust everything. And really, I want to be taking on enemies that fit my level so my weapon skill will freaking go up. For a very long time, my Dragoon couldn't even hit the damn birds because my weapon skill was so underleveled from beating up on lesser enemies.

I wouldn't want to craft either, since... damn, I can't even remember where I am with Cooking. And fishing is boring as hell.

And I'm only friends with a few people in my linkshell (meaning, I'd only ever play with them doing random shit).

Also... zomg, there's this really annoying person who bugs me all the fucking time, right when I log on. He was funny, at first, being the cute little taru that he was, and I guess we did some strange rping... but uh, I don't want to be in-character all the time and geezus, he just annoys me when he tries to get me to play. I really should've just blacklisted him but he always plants himself at the Jeuno-Windurst port and every time I run down there to take the airship, he's there!

Yes, I think it's better if I stayed away from the game for a while. Plus, it's just sucking money from my bank account.

Yessssss.......

/ramblings

On another note, having a PSP around is very handy, especially if you take the train everyday. Currently playing Valkyrie Profile on it and after a bit of playing and reading FAQs, I think I might have the battle system down. Though, it's still hard to knock experience point crystals and treasure from enemies ;; The voice acting... could use some work, even though I've heard that they redid some of the voices (except Lenneth's), but still, the actors kind of.... SUCK. Like Lawfer's. ZOMG. Okay, he's awesome in battle with his multiple-hit spear, but geezus, I want to send him off to Valhalla ASAP because of his voice and bad acting and awful dialogue. SHEESH.

Also, it has been confirmed that Revelations: Persona (Be Your True Mind) is coming out for the PSP and hooooooo yessss. Soooo getting that. Though, what I make to be the opening music so... does not fit the series at all. It's like, freaking upbeat pop. THERE'S NOTHING UPBEAT ABOUT PERSONA 1. Well, except for the battle against the rat thingy, Tesso. The music there is fun and cute. But anyway, I hope the translation is better, I hope they don't change the character art, but I wouldn't mind if they kept the name changes, however. I mean, yay! Nate Nanjo! And Mark! And Ellen! And.. bitchface blondie! :D Okay, okay, so I never really played with Alana (Ayase), since I always ran to Reiji ... wait, what was his English name? Well, I can't remember, but yes, he beats stuff up with his bare hands and has an awesome six-pack.

Anyway, in sum, I am going to snatch that game up :D And that is all.

--

Also, weird dream about me being one of the twins from Jyousei Shounen or wahtever the fuck that school was called from Prince of Tennis. I think it was a cosplay thing.
